Obituary: JoAnn (Bell) Burger - Ellis Family Funeral Home, Grove, OK
DECEMBER 10, 1925 ~ MAY 8, 2009 (AGE 83)
Jo Ann Burger, 83, of Jay, Oklahoma died at 8:30 p.m. Friday, May 8, 2009 at Grand Lake Villa in Grove, Oklahoma. Jo Ann had suffered from poor health for many years. Jo Ann was born December 10, 1925 in Phoenix, Arizona. The only child of Windom and Virgie Mae (Prather) Bell. She moved to Oklahoma City and then to Grove while still a young girl. She attended Grove High School where she was a cheerleader. On November 1, 1942, she married Bill D. Burger in Grove, Oklahoma. They were very active members of the First Christian Church of Grove. The two of them were instrumental in forming the Church Choir and were actively involved as long as their health allowed. Jo Ann also served as the church secretary two different times. Jo Ann also enjoyed sewing, quilting, flower gardening and flower arranging. Jo Ann is survived by her husband of 66 years, Bill Burger of Jay; two sons, Steve Burger and his wife Becky of Jay and Terry Burger and his wife Patty of Naches, WA; one daughter, Cindy Tauuneacie and her husband Dan of Jay; four grandchildren, Michelle Burger of Seattle, WA, Shari Burger, Jason Tauuneacie and Jimmy Tauuneacie all of Jay. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at Ellis Family Funeral Home in Grove. The funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at First Christian Church in Grove with Dr. Wayne Shaw officiating. Burial will follow in Olympus Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dan Tauuneacie, Jimmy Tauuneacie, Lewis Tauuneacie, Robert Johnson, Glenn Franklin and Mike Prather. Jason Tauuneacie and Johnny Stevenson will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. Ellis Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Obituary: Bill Don Burger - Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove, OK
JANUARY 16, 1924 ~ SEPTEMBER 8, 2014 (AGE 90)
Bill Don Burger, passed away at the Grove Nursing Center, Grove, OK on Monday, September 8, 2014 at the age of 90. Bill was born on January 16, 1924 in Kansas City, MO, the son of the late Brian Otis Burger and Amy Violet (McElroy) Burger. Bill graduated Grove High School in 1942. He left for basic training on May 1, 1942 and returned to Grove and married Jo Ann Bell on November 1, 1942. A few days after his marriage Bill joined the United States Army Air Corps and served his country during WWII and the Korean Conflict. When Bill came back from Korea, he bought a farm and worked as a painter and rancher. Bill was very involved in the First Christian Church in Grove serving 17 years as Chairman of the Board and was also involved in several other areas of the church including the choir. He was also active in the community working for GRDA and was instrumental in starting the Grove Municipal Airport. He will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Jo Ann Burger. He is survived by his sister, Betty Walker of Knoxville, TN, his children: Steve Burger and his wife Becky of Jay, OK, Terry Burger and his wife Patty of St. Maries, ID, and Cindy Tauuneacie and her husband Dan of Jay, OK; four grandchildren: Shari Burger, Dawn Michelle Burger and her fiancé Raul Black, Jason Tauuneacie, and Jimmy Tauuneacie and his wife Kristen; two great grandchildren: Kyman Tauuneacie and Piper Michelle Tauuneacie; and a host of other relatives and friends. The Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at the First Christian Church in Grove, OK on Friday, September 12, 2014 at 2PM with Dr. Wayne Shaw and Pastor Ron Riley, presiding. The burial will be at a later time at the Olympus Cemetery in Grove, OK. Arrangements are under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove, OK.
