Obituary: June (Newburn) Evinger - Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove, OK
MARCH 30, 1926 ~ OCTOBER 27, 2011 (AGE 85)
June Newburn Evinger, lifelong resident of Grove, passed away on October 27, 2011. She was born March 30, 1926 to Goldie V. and Clarence W. Newburn in Grove. She was a graduate of Grove High School and Northeastern State University where she obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Education in 1944, and a Master's Degree in Counseling in 1984. June taught business classes at Grove High School immediately after graduating from NSU. Upon her father's death in 1954, while he was serving as a volunteer fireman with the Grove Volunteer Fire Department she assumed management of the family business, Grove Lumber Company until it closed in the 1960's. When the lumber company closed, she became a case worker with the Department of Human Services in Delaware County until her retirement in 1991. After retiring from DHS, she sold real estate for a number of years and was a switchboard operator at Intregris Grove General Hospital, where she was frequently referred to as the ‘candy lady.' June was a member of the Eastern Star and served as worthy matron twice, in 1954 and 2001. She was also a member of the White Shrine and Rebecca. June was a lifelong member of First Christian Church in Grove and was a member of the choir. She devoted many hours of service to the Cherry Reds at Grove Hospital, where she spent almost every Saturday for over 30 years, where her focus was always on the patients. She also donated her time and talent to the singing group at First Christian Church visiting nursing homes in the Grove area. June is survived by her two sisters, Pat Dean Little of Fort Smith, Arkansas and JoDawn Bell of Olathe, Kansas; her children Patti E. Pyeatte and her husband, Dr. J.P. Pyeatte of Cape Girardeau, MO; Linda E. Gilmore of Picayune, MS; Kathi D. Murphy and her husband Chad, of Joplin, MO; Steven J. Evinger and his wife Crystal, of Grove.Grandchildren Corey Lauren Gilmore of Little Rock, AR; Marcus Peyton Gilmore and his wife Jordan, of Hot Springs, AR; Jesse Pyeatte of San Francisco, CA and Matthew Pyeatte of Cape Girardeau, MO. Also survived by her nieces Marianne Bell of Memphis Tennessee and Stacey Davis of Olathe, Kansas along with a newphew Joe Little of Fort Smith, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, son- in- law Larry W. Gilmore; brothers- in- law, Dan Ray Little and Micheal L. Bell Funeral services for June will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 30, 2011 at the First Christian Church, of Grove, Oklahoma. Interment will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday October 31, 2011 at Olympus Cemetery in Grove, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove, Oklahoma.
