Flowers, Charles Watson & Norma L.
Obituary: Charles Watson Flowers - Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove, OK
FEBRUARY 23, 1925 ~ JANUARY 10, 2011 (AGE 85)
Charles Watson Flowers went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, January 10, 2011. Charles was born in Saratoga Texas to Jack Flowers and Irene Butler Flowers on February 23, 1925. He went to school in Saratoga and then moved to Kountze, Texas in 1938. He was captain of his football team his junior and senior years of high school. He was a Veteran of WW II and upon his discharge he worked nine years in offshore drilling. In 1945 he met and fell in love with Norma Walker from Parsons, Kansas. Charles and Norma were married on March 4, 1947. They are parents of two children, Carrol Borton and Charles David Flowers. In 1952 Charles decided on a career change and moved to Parsons, Kansas where he served as an apprentice brick mason. Charles later served as Vice President of The State Conference of Brick Layers and also served as the President of the Brick Mason Local 7 of Parsons, Kansas. Charles gave his heart to the Lord in 1954 and served his church as a Sunday School Teacher, Youth Leader and Deacon. Charles lived his faith through his actions and blessed many people through his quiet convictions. In 1970 Charles was employed by Medical Lodges as the Superintendent of Construction. He was responsible for the construction of medical buildings and nursing homes in Kansas, Missouri and Arkansas. In 1979 he was employed by Foxwood Springs Living Center in Raymor, Missouri as Director of Buildings, Grounds and Security. Charles retired in 1987 to his home on Grand Lake in Grove, Oklahoma and began woodcarving as a hobby. "Dad Flowers", as he was affectionately know to many, hand carved hundreds of birds, praying hands, crosses, horses, deer, fish and many other items that he unselfishly gave to others to enjoy. His passion for woodworking can be enjoyed at many homes in the Grand Lake area and in many other states. His generosity was unlimited. In 1994 he and Norma purchased a large four bedroom home in Grove and completely remodeled it themselves and moved in the same year. Over the next few years Charles and Norma opened their home to numerous families, some for extended stays. Their home was always a place to be welcomed into a warm and loving environment. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, three sisters, one grandson and one great grandson. He is survived by his wife Norma of the home, one daughter, Carrol Borton of Grove, and one son, David of Fairland, seven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends. Charles legacy of love and kindness will live through those he so easily loved during his years on this earth. He will be greatly missed by his family and the many adopted family members that were privileged to call him "dad". He had many "adopted daughters and sons" who enjoyed the privilege of his shared enthusiasm for life. Charles remains for us an example of a man who enjoyed God's grace and mercy in his life as well as a man who daily discovered God's will for his life. During good times and difficult times Charles always said "I am a winner either way". In other words, whether he continued to live on this earth and serve his Lord or went home to heaven, he was a winner. Visitation will be on Thursday, January 13, 2011 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove. A celebration of Charles' life will be held at Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home's Chapel at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, January 14, 2011 with Pastor Mike Whitney officiating. A Private Graveside will take place at the Olympus Cemetery in Grove, Oklahoma.
