Obituary: Virgie J. Hagerman - Nichols Stephens Funeral & Cremation, Grove, OK

Virgie J. Hagerman, age 92, of Grove passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 in Jay, Oklahoma. She was born on December 4, 1926 to John and Lilly (Hill) Hargis in Oark, AR, where she grew up and attended school.  On November 12, 1945 Virgie married the love of her life, Robert Hagerman in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The couple moved to Grove in 1958. 

Virgie became an amazing asset to the community and served it exceptionally well. Her willingness to volunteer was a notable characteristic that few others possess. For over 55 years Virgie was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Grove where she proudly served as president, past president, treasurer, and chaplain. She was also a member of the American Red Cross for 40 years where she was an instructor for CPR classes. Virgie had a kind heart and would help anyone in need without question. For many years she prepared income taxes for low income families and the elderly at no cost. 

Virgie never met a stranger and her warm personality and her welcome smile was instantly contagious. She treasured her family and was a loving and faithful wife of 61 years to Robert until his passing, as well as a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.

Virgie was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters, 4 brothers, her husband, 1 daughter Fern Brown and 2 great grandsons. Left to cherish her memory: daughters, Jean Kenney of Jay, Oklahoma and Roberta Smith of Parsons, KS; sister, Ruby Turner of Napa, CA and brother, Harold Hargis of Broken Arrow, OK, 8 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, 8 step grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. 

A visitation will be held at 1:00 pm, followed by funeral services at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 6, 2019, both at Nichols-Stephens Funeral & Cremation Services. Burial will be at Buzzard Cemetery.
