Obituary: Helen "Jo" Hutchison - Nichols-Stephens Funeral Home, Grove, OK
Helen “Joey” Hutchison, age 66, long-time resident of Grove, OK passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, July 16, 2016 in Tulsa, OK. She was born on July 1, 1950 to James, Jr and Dorothy (Clark) Hutchison in Charlotte, NC. As a child her family relocated often and she attended grade school in Kansas, Texas, New Mexico, Iowa and California. Her family then moved to Grove, OK where she attended junior high and high school, graduating in the Class of 1968.
In November of 1968, Joey was involved in an automobile accident in which she sustained a back injury that left her paralyzed from the waist down. After multiple surgeries and rehab, Joey returned to Grove where she spent the rest of her life living in this community that she loved.
Joey was a faithful member of Grand Lake Baptist Church, where she loved attending and loved her church family. She spoke often of going to Heaven and we know that she is finally at rest there. Her faith remained strong even as her health was deteriorating.
Joey touched many lives in the area through her volunteer efforts in Girl Scouts, churches, schools and many visits to the various nursing homes. She had many treasured friends and was a loyal Ridgerunner fan, attending football games as often as possible. She adored her family and to be included in her family, you didn’t need to be any blood relation, and she would do ANYTHING to help her family.
Many times Joey could be seen traveling in her wheelchair between Sailboat bridge and Grove, always with a smile on her face and offering encouraging words to those she met along the way.
Jo was preceded in death her parents. She is survived by: her brother, Kim Hutchison, Sr. and wife, Cathy of Catoosa, OK, Nephews: Kim Hutchison, Jr and wife, Amanda of Catoosa, OK and Jamie Hutchison and wife, Stephanie of Owasso, OK; niece, Shelly Butler of Verdigris, OK; great nieces and nephews Hunter, Hayden, Heath, Morgan, Addie, Kaylan and Aiden and a host of friends.
Visitation will be held from 6-8pm Wednesday, July 20 at Nichols Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be at 10am Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Grand Lake Baptist Church. Interment at Olympus Cemetery.
