OBITUARY: VERGA HELEN MURPHY - PAUL THOMAS FUNERAL HOME, MIAMI, OK
Verga “Helen” Murphy of Commerce, Ok passed away Friday July 8, 2011 at Eastwood Manor in Commerce, OK. She was 88.
Mrs. Murphy was born October 9, 1922 in Dennis, Oklahoma to Frank and Lottie (Scoles) Mitchell. She had lived in the Miami / Grove area most of her life. She was a member of the Northwest Baptist Church in Miami, OK and a Sunday School Teacher, Jr. Choir Director and was a Sweet Adalines.
She married James Woodroe Murphy October 18, 1942 in Seattle, Washington and he preceded her in death on May 13, 1978, She was also preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers Ervin Mitchell, Vaun Mitchell (Her Twin), Ray Mitchell and 1 sister Lodema Jean Clarkson. Survivors includes: 2 Sons Woodie G. Murphy and wife Anita L. of Tulsa, OK , Jimmie D. Murphy and wife Kay L. of Miami, OK
Grandchildren Junette Murphy, Woodie Murphy, Jr., Chad Murphy and wife Courtney, Tyson Murphy and wife Brianne. Great Grandchildren Woodie Murphy, III, Morgan Murphy, Hailey Murphy, Alissa Murphy, Conner Murphy, Kylee Murphy and Ireland Pearson.
Funeral Services will be Monday July 11, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Northwest Baptist Church in Miami, Ok. Dr. J. Fulton Amonette will officiate.
Interment will be in Buzzard Cemetery in Grove, Ok. The family will receive friends Sunday from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home. Services are under the direction of the Paul Thomas Funeral Home of Miami, Oklahoma. Online condolences may be made at
