City Council Recognizes Outstanding Students

Kenny Wright IV and Mason Allen were recognized by the Grove City Council on July 5, 2017 as the 2017 4A Regional and State #2 Doubles Tennis Tournament Champions.

PROCLAMATION

City of Grove, Oklahoma, Office of the Mayor  to all whom these presents shall come:

WHEREAS: Kenny Wright IV and Mason Allen have been playing tennis and taking lessons since 7th Grade; and

WHEREAS: during their sophomore season, Kenny and Mason have excelled in #2 doubles competition ending the season with a record of 24-1; and

WHEREAS: Kenny and Mason were the 2017 4A Regional #2 Doubles Tennis Tournament Champions and went on to wine the 2017 4A State #2 Doubles Tennis Tournament as well; and

WHEREAS: The upcoming school year, both Kenny and Mason will be Juniors are Grove High School where they both maintain a 4.0 GPA and are enrolled in Advanced Placement classes; and

WHEREAS: Outside of tennis, Kenny is involved at Grove High School in the Speech and Drama Club, Character Counts, Math Club, a board member of the Interact Club and is active in the teen youth club at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church; and

WHEREAS: Outside of tennis, Mason is active in music where he plays the Bari Saxophone in the Grove High School marching band, concert and, and jazz band, and in January 2017 earned the honor of All-State Bari Saxophone; and

WHEREAS: Kenny and Mason both plan on attending College beyond High School where Kenny plans on pursuing and engineering degree and Mason plans on pursuing a degree in Saxophone Performance.

NOW THEREFORE IT BE RESOLVED that I, Ed Trumbull, Mayor of the City of Grove, do hereby proclaim

Megan was recognized and honored by the Grove City Council on June 20, 2017 as the 5A State Pole Vault Champion.

PROCLAMATION

City of Grove, Oklahoma, Office of the Mayor  to all whom these presents shall come:

WHEREAS, Megan Tramel has been a member of the Lady Red Softball Team and Grove Track Team for five years through Middle School and her High School Junior year; and

WHEREAS, Megan has excelled as a pole vaulter for the Grove High School Track Team by winning a 5A State Championship in 2015 as a Freshman followed by a second 5A State Championship in 2016 and a third 5A State Championship in 2017; and

WHEREAS, Megan set a Grove High School Pole Vault Record as a Freshman while winning the 5A State Championship with a vault 11' 5" that still stands today; and

WHEREAS, Megan will be seeking her fourth Pole Vault State Championship in 2018 which would make her the first ever four-time State Champion in girls' pole vaulting in any class for the State of Oklahoma; and

WHEREAS, In addition to Megan being a Champion Pole Vaulter, she is also a top rated student in the class room maintaining a non-weighted 4.0 GPA and has already scored a 29 on her ACT and has completed a number of AP courses and is enrolled in additional AP classes during her upcoming Senior year; and

WHEREAS, Megan's plan beyond high school is to pole-vault in college while obtaining an undergraduate degree in Pre-Med.

Keely was recognized by Grove City Council on June 20, 2017 as the 5A State Shot Put Champion.

City of Grove, Oklahoma, Office of the Mayor  to all whom these presents shall come:

WHEREAS, Keely McLaughlin has been participating in Track and Field since 6th Grade and at first truly disliked the sport, but after many hours of practice and literally 'thousands' of throw, she began to see the results and knew that she had found a passion in throwing the discus and shot put; and

WHEREAS, over the past four years, Keely has consistently been one of the top high school track and field throwers in Oklahoma, where she was a four time double regional champion in the discus and shot put as well as a double state champion her sophomore year in the same events; and

WHEREAS, Keely's  success in throwing the discus includes a 4th place finish at the State Track Meet as a freshman, followed by a State Champion her sophomore year, followed with a 3rd place finish her junior year and a 2nd place her senior year; and

WHEREAS, Keely has had the most success in throwing the shot put as she placed 4th at the State Track Meet her freshman year and followed that with three straight State Championships in the same event; and

WHEREAS, Keely not only holds the Grove High School record for discus 145' 4", she also holds the 5A State Meet record for shot put and met her goal of setting the overall state record for all Oklahoma high school classes on April 11, 2017, with a throw of 46' 8 1/4"; and

WHEREAS, Keely has also been active in a number of different activities and clubs including AVID, Upward Bound, Interact and as a member of the Grove Integris Hospital Student Governing Board; and

WHEREAS, Keely is a 2017 Grove High School graduate where she maintained a 3.9 GPA and recorded a perfect attendance through all four years of high school; and

WHEREAS, Keely will be attending Oregon State University this fall on a track and field scholarship where she will continue her throwing career with a goal to someday qualify for the Olympics and upon graduation pursue a career in tour management for musicians or as a music producer.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I Ed Trumbull, Mayor of the City of Grove, do hereby proclaim
