SUN (INCLUDES SUNRISE OR SUNSET) -  The sun symbolizes renewed life and everlasting life, as well as light, warmth and hope.  A Sunrise symbolizes the resurrection as the soul rises to heaven; a Sunset symbolizes the ending of life in the flesh.

SAINT ANTHONY OF PADUA -   Catholic tradition assigns each saint visual symbols that invoke imagery of the saint's virtues and circumstances in their lives, miracles and death. These symbols serve as remembrances of the saint's life and devotions and as symbols of spiritual ideals.

THE ROYAL HIGHLANDERS - The Royal Highlanders symbol includes T.R.H. (The Royal Highlanders) and P.F.V. (Prudence, Fidelity and Valor). The Royal Highlanders was a fraternal insurance organization organized in 1896 in Aurora, Hamilton County, Nebraska.  Joseph Johnson of Aurora was selected to construct the three-story brick headquarters building. The Royal Highlanders remained in Aurora until the organization merged with the Lincoln Mutual Life Insurance Company in 1923.

CROSSED RIFLES -  Crossed rifles are common on military headstones. They are not specific to a branch of military and are used to denote a veteran, usually an officer.  The United States Marine Corps utilizes crossed rifles in two of its uniform markings. The first is in the rank chevrons attached to the uniform sleeves. From Lance Corporal to Master Sergeant, each insignia bears a pair of crossed rifles. The second emblem that uses crossed rifles is the expert rifleman badge.

FAMILY TREE -  Genealogical data can be represented in several formats. Family trees are often presented with the oldest generations at the top and the newer generations at the bottom. An ancestry chart, which is a tree showing the ancestors of an individual, will more closely resemble a tree in shape, being wider at the top than the bottom. 

Beauty, Strengh, wisdom and eternal life are a few of the symbolic meanings for different trees.  The genealogy of Christ in prophecy is also represented by a tree as referenced below.

CROSS - Universal symbol of Christianity.  In contemporary Christianity, the cross is a symbol of the atonement and reminds Christians of God's love in sacrificing his own son for humanity.  It represents Jesus' victory over sin and death because through his death and resurrection he conquered death itself.

LADDER OR STAIRCASE -  The ladder (or staircase) is symbolic of the connection between HEAVEN and EARTH. It represents progress, ascenscion, and spiritual passage.  In the Bible, Jacob's ladder established contact between man and God, and there are seven rungs on the ladder of virtue.

INFINITY -  The infinity symbol ∞ (sometimes called the lemniscate) is a mathematical symbol representing the concept of infinity. The infinity symbol is a never ending loop. So it means forever or always or limitless, never ending possibilities, no beginning and no end.

PRESBYTERIAN CROSS -  Presbyterianism is a part of the Reformed tradition within Protestantism which traces its origins to the British Isles. Presbyterian churches derive their name from the presbyterian form of church government, which is governed by representative assemblies of elders.

MEXICAN WAR VETERAN -  The Mexican-American War (1846-1848) marked the first U.S. armed conflict chiefly fought on foreign soil. It pitted a politically divided and militarily unprepared Mexico against the expansionist-minded administration of U.S. President James K. Polk, who believed the United States had a “manifest destiny” to spread across the continent to the Pacific Ocean.  A border skirmish along the Rio Grande started off the fighting and was followed by a series of U.S. victories.
