Eastern Star

EASTERN STAR - The Order of the Eastern Star is a Freemasonic appendant body open to both men and women. It was established in 1850 by lawyer and educator Rob Morris, a noted Freemason. The order is based on teachings from the Bible, but is open to people of all religious beliefs. The character-building lessons taught in the Order are stories inspired by Biblical figures:

Foresters of America (F of A)

FORESTERS OF AMERICA (F OF A) - Foresters of America, a fraternal society founded in the US in 1895 and provided life and disability insurance to its members.  Usually contains an eagle, crossed flags, and a deer.  Their motto was Liberty, Unity, Benevolence and Concord.

In 1834 the Royal Foresters formed a Society, the Ancient Order of Foresters (AOF).  The IOF in the United States became independent of the AOF in 1874, and as of 2014 operates a separate UK division, Forester Life, based in South London.

Eye with Sunburst (All Seeing Eye)

EYE WITH SUNBURST (ALL SEEING EYE) - Represents the all-seeing eye of God and is a reminder that a Mason's thoughts and deeds are always observed by God (who is referred to in Masonry as the Great Architect of the Universe). Typically, the Masonic Eye of Providence has a semi-circular glory below the eye.

Today, the Eye of Providence is often associated with Freemasonry. The Eye first appeared as part of the standard iconography of the Freemasons in 1797, with the publication of Thomas Smith Webb's Freemasons Monitor.

City of Grove/GMSA Surplus Auction is 10/1/16.

The City of Grove and Grove Municipal Services Authority will hold a Surplus Auction on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 10:00 a.m.  The Auction will be held at the Public Works Facility located on North Cherokee.

Directions:  Turn onto North Cherokee at 3rd Street/Highway 10 and go approximately 2.5 miles, the facility is located on the West side of N Cherokee.  If you pass the bowling alley, you have gone too far.

Cross, Orthodox

ORTHODOX CROSS - The Orthodox, Eastern Orthodox  or Russian (Orthodox) Cross, also known as the Suppedaneum cross, is a variation of the Christian cross, commonly found in the Eastern Orthodox Churches, as well as the Eastern Catholic Churches of Byzantine rite, and used widely by groups to connote the Byzantine rite.

FRATERNAL ORDER OF EAGLES (FOE) - The Fraternal Order of Eagles, an international non-profit organization, unites fraternally in the spirit of liberty, truth, justice, and equality, to make human life more desirable by lessening its ills, and by promoting peace, prosperity, gladness and hope.

Improved Order of Red Men (IORM)

IMPROVED ORDER OF RED MEN - The Improved Order of Red Men is a fraternal organization established in 1834. A patriotic society whose motto is Freedom, Friendship and Charity.  T.O.T.E stands for Totem of the Eagle.

Boy Scouts of America

EAGLE & SHIELD ON FLEUR-DE-LIS (BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA) - A primary symbol of the Boy Scouts of America is the Fleur-de-Lis (pictured above) because of what it stands for and how prevalent it is within other Scouting artifacts such as rank patches.  This trefoil flower has been used throughout history, appearing on French shields and such.  The crest is the “Fleur-de-Lis”, a lily, the emblem of peace and purity.  It symbolizes that a Scout can always point himself in the best direction in life.

Scottish Rite (Masonic)

DOUBLE HEADED EAGLE (SCOTTISH RITE) - This double-headed eagle symbol is for the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. The number 32 inside the triangle represents the 32nd degree of the Scottish Rite. The Latin motto, “Spes mea in Deo est,” means “My hope is in God.”
